Parent Tips for Child Safety
General Rules for Teaching Your Child How To Be Safe
  • Always use "Age Appropriate" tips when teaching child safety

  • Teach your child their name, your name, phone number and address -- in that order

  • The most valuable learning tool is the "What-If" game

  • Know your child’s friends including their addresses and phone numbers

  • Teach your child the "Buddy System" — Always play with a friend

  • Never insist that a child be affectionate -- it takes away their right to choose

  • A stranger may not be a stranger ( the majority of molested children are molested by someone they know )

  • Continually build your child’s self-esteem ( if you don’t, someone else will )

  • Asking for references should not be an insult -- it should be an expectation

  • Be aware of inappropriate behavior by adults
( someone spending an excessive amount of time with your child outside the presence of other children; gifts; favors; etc. )
  • Monitor your child’s Internet activity
( the person on the other keyboard may be misrepresenting themselves )

  • Communicate with your child daily. Communication is the key to knowledge
